On October 25, 2021, the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) held its Awards Gala in Crete, Greece, where Eliud Kipchoge was awarded the best male athlete of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
As the men's marathon world record holder, Eliud Kipchoge won the gold medal in the marathon event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which were held in Tokyo, Japan, from July to August 2021.
His achievement marked a successful defense of his title from the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he also won the gold medal in the marathon event.
The award was presented by Mr. Mustapha Berraf, the president of the Association of National Olympics Committee of Africa, at the Open Air Theatre of the Creta Maris Beach Hotel.
Other notable awardees included Canadian Maggie Mac Neil as the best female athlete of Tokyo 2020, Cuban Mijain Lopez for outstanding athlete performance, and the Japan National Baseball Team and New Zealand Rugby Team as the best male and female teams, respectively.
