On Saturday night, a violent incident unfolded in Nanyuki, Kenya, leaving a trail of destruction and a 32-year-old woman, Joy Makena, with a severe gun wound on her right foot.

According to reports, Makena had quarreled with Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip before she was shot. The Senator, who was at large for a significant portion of Sunday, eventually surrendered to the police.

On October 23, 2021, officers from the Nanyuki police station were notified of the incident and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they recovered a firearm, two spent 9mm cartridges, and 13 rounds of ammunition.

The Senator is now facing numerous charges, including misuse of firearms and causing injury. In a statement to a local media agency, Loitiptip claimed that he was attacked by a knife-wielding gang on Saturday night, forcing him to shoot in the air.

However, the police have a different account of the events. Loitiptip has been taken into custody and will spend the night in police custody.
