Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip has surrendered to the police following a shooting incident at Kanu Grounds in Nanyuki, where a 32-year-old woman was left nursing gunshot wounds.

According to a police report, the woman was shot in the right leg, above the ankle, during the incident on Saturday, October 23, at 2am.

Police recovered a firearm with 13 bullets from the Senator's security detail at the crime scene.

Senator Anwar had initially denied involvement in the incident, claiming he was attacked by a knife-wielding gang and was receiving medical attention in Nairobi.

However, police investigations revealed that the Senator had informed them that he had been confronted by two women and a man, and had shot in self-defence.

Senator Anwar has recently been accused of assaulting a political aspirant affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, Francis Mugo, who accused him of breaking his glasses, snatching his mobile phone, and trying to throw him into the Indian Ocean.
