On October 20, 2021, a tragic incident occurred at Komothai Girls Secondary School in Kiambu County, where a 17-year-old student, Brian Mbage, died after being allegedly assaulted for entering a girls' school dormitory.
According to an autopsy conducted at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital mortuary, the teenager suffered excessive bleeding in the head, which led to his death.
The incident occurred when Brian, along with five other schoolmates, forced their way into the girls' school, prompting a mob to corner and beat him up.
George Ng'ang'a Karanja, the manager of the security firm providing services to Komothai, stated that students raised alarm following the intrusion, attracting the attention of guards and staff.
However, Brian's mother, Mary Mbage, is not convinced that her son died as a result of injuries inflicted by a mob, claiming that the injuries on his body do not show any signs of beatings.
Police visited the scene and collected wooden planks believed to have been used in the teenager's lynching, and an investigation is underway.
County director of education Victoria Mulili announced that Gathiruini Boys High school, located three kilometres from Komothai Girls in Githunguri, Kiambu County, will remain closed until Monday, October 25, 2021.
