Published on July 5, 2019, the National Police Service Board announced the transfer of 23,999 Administration Police officers to Kenya Police Service.
The move is part of the police reforms announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta last year.
The affected regions include Rift Valley, Coast, North Eastern, and Nairobi, with 6,707, 2,043, 1,785, and 1,438 officers respectively being transferred.
The officers have been directed to liaise with their regional and county commanders for guidance on the changes.
Regional and county police heads have been warned against transferring officers from their sub-counties until the transformation is complete.
The transferred officers will serve under the command of Deputy Inspector General Edward Mbugua, while those not affected will work under Deputy Inspector General Noor Gabow as Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU).
