Martha Karua, the leader of Narc-Kenya, has denied claims that she will be Raila Odinga's running mate in the 2022 polls, citing her own ambitions for the Kirinyaga governor's seat.

Speaking at a leaders' meeting at Kerugoya Starwood Hotel, Karua emphasized that she had not declared herself as a running mate nor had she been approached by anyone for the position.

She stated, "I will be running for the Kirinyaga governor's seat in the next polls," and warned Mount Kenya leaders against folding up their political parties ahead of the 2022 polls, deeming it suicidal.

Currently, most residents in the region lean towards the United Democratic Alliance, linked to Deputy President William Ruto, who Karua believes is regretting his decision to dissolve his URP party to team up with President Uhuru Kenyatta to form Jubilee.

She noted that the DP has no power over the control of Jubilee, and that Mt Kenya leaders should be given free space to run their political parties without interference.

Accompanied by presidential aspirant Mukhisa Kituyi, Karua emphasized that the region will influence the direction Kenya takes politically if the leaders stand firm.

Kituyi added that Kenya requires a president who will revive the economy and eradicate corruption, warning Kenyans to be careful when choosing leaders in 2022.
