On October 23, 2021, Deputy President William Ruto visited Busia town to address the youth during an economic empowerment program.
He urged the youth not to allow politicians to use them to cause violence, instead focusing on creating jobs and addressing the biggest challenge of unemployment facing them.
Dr. Ruto emphasized that the days of using violence to manage politics are long gone, and the youth are now more enlightened than before.
He warned politicians who misuse youths for violence, saying, 'We want to tell those using our children to cause violence by paying them to stone their opponents that their days are numbered.'
Dr. Ruto also urged the youth to move towards issue-based voting and discourage tribal loyalty, which has denied them leaders committed to addressing their problems.
He emphasized the need for youths to interrogate leaders before making informed decisions in the 2022 elections.
Dr. Ruto addressed residents in several markets, including Bumala, Nambale, Adungosi, and Malaba, accompanied by several MPs and a former MP.
