On November 20-21, the coastal city of Mombasa will host the Mombasa Run, a charity event that promises to showcase the city's beauty and raise funds for good causes. The event will be led by none other than Olympic medallist Douglas Wakiihuri, who won gold in the 1987 World Championships 42km marathon in Rome.
According to Younes Iraki, CEO of Action Marketing Plus, the event has attracted runners from across the country, including Kwale, Kilifi, Nairobi, Eldoret, and Mombasa. This is a testament to the growing popularity of running events in Kenya.
Iraki also revealed that plans are underway to stage similar runs in other cities, including Kisumu, Eldoret, and Machakos. The Mombasa Run is expected to be a huge success, with thousands of followers already eager to participate.
“We already have thousands of followers eager for the run. Building on our successful Nairobi Run, we have several run groups of Nairobi planning to travel and engage with the running community of Mombasa,” said Iraki.
The event has received support from the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and Mombasa County Government, which will help runners discover and explore the city's historical sites.
