On October 22, 2021, the High Court of Kenya ordered the immediate removal of Governor Mike Sonko, paving the way for a new governor to take over in Nairobi.

The court's decision came after a long-standing dispute over Sonko's appointment of Anne Kananu as deputy governor. Kananu had been serving as the acting governor of Nairobi, but her appointment was challenged by activist Okiya Omtatah and former Governor Mike Sonko.

According to the court, the appointment of Kananu was not valid, and she should not have been sworn in as deputy governor. The court's ruling was a major blow to Sonko, who had been facing numerous challenges in his tenure as governor.

With Sonko's removal, Nairobi will soon have a new governor. The new governor will be tasked with overseeing the county's affairs, including the management of its finances and infrastructure.

Meja Jenerali Mohamed Badi, who was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to oversee the county's operations, will likely play a key role in the transition process.
