Published on October 22, 2021, the Kenyan government has announced the resumption of night travel in the country, a move that comes after a suspension lasting over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia stated that Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators are free to resume their services, provided they follow all COVID-19 protocols outlined by the government.
"We are encouraging members of the transport fraternity to embrace COVID-19 vaccination in line with the sector," Macharia said.
He also expressed gratitude to the transport sector's leadership and workers for their support in mitigating the spread of the virus.
The decision to resume night travel follows President Uhuru Kenyatta's lifting of the 10pm-4am nationwide curfew, which was imposed in March 2020 to curb the spread of the virus.
President Kenyatta attributed the decision to a drop in COVID-19 infections in the country and urged the public to get vaccinated as part of efforts to contain the pandemic.
