The Multimedia University of Kenya is undergoing significant transformations to enhance its learning environment. One of the notable projects is the construction of a five-storied modern library, which is expected to be completed by the end of December this year.

According to Vice Chancellor Prof. Festus Kaberia, the current library is small and can only accommodate 2,500 students, while the institution has a student population of around 7,000. The new library will provide ample space for research, learning, and personal development.

However, the project has faced some challenges, including a change in the depth of the foundation from 5 meters to 7.5 meters and the introduction of a basement. These changes have resulted in an increase in the estimated cost of the project.

Prof. Kaberia has urged the government to provide additional funding of Sh80.6 million to complete the project as scheduled. The library will be a signature building for the institution and will provide a conducive environment for learning.

Other ongoing projects at the university include the construction of a four-storied lecture hall, a gymnasium, and a perimeter wall. The university has also introduced new academic programs in fields such as film and animation, mechatronic engineering, mathematics, and computer science.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Rosebella Maranga has emphasized the need for additional classrooms and lecturers' offices to cater to the growing number of students and staff. The university is also planning to use the gymnasium as a source of income generating unit.

Government officials have assured the university of their commitment to completing the ongoing projects. The Multimedia University of Kenya is a public university established by the Kenyan Government under the Universities Act No. 42 of 2012 and the Multimedia University of Kenya Charter 2013.
