On October 16, 2021, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya arrested a man impersonating a Safaricom engineer in Murang'a.

The suspect, identified as Lenny Ng'ang'a, was caught vandalizing Safaricom's telecommunication equipment worth over Sh. 2 million.

According to the DCI, Ng'ang'a gained access to the equipment by claiming he was an engineer on a routine maintenance mission.

Locals became suspicious of his activities, prompting police to intervene.

Ng'ang'a attempted to escape by jumping into his vehicle and speeding off, but a police chase ensued, and he was eventually forced to pull over and surrender.

Further search of his vehicle led to the discovery of the stolen equipment, which was confiscated by the police.

Ng'ang'a is set to be arraigned in court on Monday.
