On Sunday, October 17, 2021, the National Police Service (NPS) issued a statement addressing the health of Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai, which had been the subject of speculation on social media.

According to reports, Mutyambai had been rushed to hospital after collapsing on October 16, but NPS dismissed these claims as fake news.

"NPS wishes to clarify and assure Kenyans that the IG is fine, healthy and on duty," read the statement.

Further investigation revealed that Mutyambai was out of the country on official duty, attending the 23rd Annual General Meeting for Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, which ended on October 16.

Former Nairobi Regional Police Commander, Wilson Njenga, was also part of the delegation.

IG Mutyambai confirmed on October 17 that the delegation had returned to the country.
