On July 4, 2019, three Kenyan poets, sisterhood.lam, took to social media to share a catchy video that cleverly trolled The New York Times (NYT) for its job advert of a Nairobi Bureau Chief position.

The video was a response to NYT's job advert on LinkedIn, which depicted Africa as a continent of conflict and turmoil.

According to the advert, the ideal candidate should enjoy jumping on news, be willing to cover conflict, and also be drawn to investigative stories.

However, many social media users were vexed by NYT's obsession for a journalist to 'cover conflict' and 'unexpected stories of hope' in the region.
