On October 15, 2021, Masten Wanjala, a notorious child serial killer, met a tragic end in his rural village of Mukhyawa in Bungoma County.

Wanjala, who had escaped from Jogoo Road Police Station days earlier, was mobbed to death by locals after he was spotted in his village.

His escape from the police station had raised eyebrows, with the police unable to explain how he managed to slip out of the cells without breaking any window or door.

Three police officers who were on duty on the day of his escape were arrested and arraigned in court.

Wanjala had been arrested in July 2021 after he was linked to the killings of several children.

During his interrogation, he confessed to detectives that he had murdered at least 13 children in different parts of the country.

He revealed that he would first sexually molest them before committing the heinous act and later dumping the bodies at different places.

Wanjala took the police to various murder scenes in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, and Bungoma counties.
