For months, residents of Ruiru in Kiambu County lived in fear of a serial killer who targeted women, leaving a trail of death and terror in his wake.
On October 15, 2021, the nightmare finally came to an end with the arrest of Paul Magara Morara, a 29-year-old man who had been on the run since 2020.
According to the DCI Ruiru profiling, Magara, who was known by his alias name, Mkisii, would strike in the dead of night, killing and injuring women before making off with their underwear.
The first reported incident occurred in 2020 at Kiunguru area near Ruiru Bypass, where a woman was found dead in her room with one of her breasts chopped off.
Despite the police receiving several leads, Magara remained at large, and the attacks continued, leaving a total of three women dead and four seriously injured.
The police finally got their breakthrough when they arrested four suspects, including 25-year-old Moses Moogi Okemwa, who revealed that he was an accomplice of Magara.
Further investigations revealed that Magara had joined a cult in 2013, which promised to pay him for every kill on a woman, with the payment confirmed by showing a woman's pants.
However, Magara had been double-crossed after a Sh30,000 down-payment, but continued with the monstrous attacks.
