On October 14, 2021, Timothy Maneno emerged victorious in the Nguu/Masumba Ward by-election, securing the seat as the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for the ward.
Maneno, an independent candidate, garnered 2,902 votes, surpassing his closest rivals, UDA candidate Daniel Musau, who secured 2,219 votes, and Wiper candidate Eshio Mwaiwa, who received 1,614 votes.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Harris Ngui Musau, the previous MCA for Nguu/Masumba Ward, who passed away in a road accident on June 15, 2021, on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Maneno's victory comes despite initial challenges, as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) initially refused to clear him to vie due to alleged failure to produce clearance letters. However, Maneno successfully petitioned the court, which ordered the IEBC to clear him within 72 hours on September 20.
