Kenya's Covid-19 Cases Rise to 251,669 as 186 New Cases Emerge

On October 14th, 2021, the Ministry of Health confirmed 186 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the country's total caseload to 251,669.

These new cases were detected from 6,965 samples tested, increasing the cumulative tests to 2,624,609. The Covid-19 positivity rate stands at 2.7 per cent.

According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases comprise 88 Kenyans and three foreigners, with 50 males and 41 females affected. The youngest case is a one-year-old child, while the oldest is 91 years old.

Regrettably, the national death toll rose to 5,202 after four more patients succumbed to the virus.

Meanwhile, 189 patients have recovered from the disease, with 135 recovering through the Home-Based Isolation and Care program and 54 from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 244,935.

Currently, 640 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,631 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Some 35 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 18 on ventilatory support and 17 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Additionally, 211 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen, with 207 in general wards and four in High Dependency Units (HDU).

As of October 13th, 2021, a total of 4,340,511 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 3,213,661 were the first dose, while 1,126,850 were fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was 33.6 per cent, with the proportion of adults fully vaccinated standing at 4.1 per cent.
