Kenya's Covid-19 Cases Rise By 170, Positivity Rate at 3.7%

Kenya has reported a rise in Covid-19 cases, with 170 new infections recorded from a sample size of 4,648 tested in the last 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health, the positivity rate has increased to 3.7% as of October 14, 2021, up from 2% on the previous day.

The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 251,483, with cumulative tests conducted reaching 2,617,700.

The new cases were reported in various counties, including Nairobi, Marsabit, Meru, Nakuru, Kiambu, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Murang'a, Baringo, Narok, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Siaya, Makueni, Garissa, Kericho, Kisii, Kitui, Machakos, Migori, Mombasa, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Tana River, Homa Bay, Tharaka Nithi, Bomet, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Turkana, and West Pokot.

The Ministry of Health also reported 213 new recoveries, with 111 patients being from the home-based care programme and 102 from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 244,746.

Additionally, the ministry noted that three deaths were reported, all of which were late fatalities reported after conducting facility record audits in October 2021. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,198.

Further, a total of 661 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, with 1,668 under the home-based care programme. 37 patients are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), 19 of whom are on ventilatory support and 18 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 210 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen, with 206 of them in general wards and four in High Dependency Units (HDU).

So far, the country has administered a total of 4,273,664 Covid-19 vaccines. Of these, total first doses are 3,183,079 while second jabs are 1,090,585.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first was at 32.8 per cent while the proportion of fully vaccinated adults stands at 4 per cent.
