On October 13, 2021, serial killer Masten Milimo Wanjala, 20, escaped from police custody at the Jogoo Road Police Station in Nairobi, sparking a manhunt by police.

Wanjala had been arrested in mid-July 2021 and had confessed to killing at least 10 minors in different parts of the country. He had led detectives to at least six murder scenes in Nairobi's Shauri Moyo and in Western Kenya, where he had dumped the bodies.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Wanjala was set to face murder charges for the killing of three children, with further investigations ongoing on similar murders involving other children where he is a suspect.

Police launched a manhunt for Wanjala, who is considered a threat to the public, especially children. The officers who were on duty when Wanjala escaped, including the deputy Officer Commanding Station, were arrested and are set to be arraigned in court on Thursday, October 14, 2021.
