On Thursday, Safaricom PLC interim Chief Executive Officer Michael Joseph delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Bob Collymore at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.
Joseph, who was visibly emotional, recited a poem titled 'My Funeral' written by Wendy Cope. The poem was a humorous take on the etiquette of attending funerals, with Cope urging friends and family to keep their eulogies brief and to the point.
According to Joseph, he and Collymore had agreed that one of them would read the poem at the other's funeral or memorial service. Joseph expressed sadness that he was the one who had to read it, adding that he had lost a close friend and confidant.
Collymore died on Monday morning after a long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) at his Nairobi home and was cremated on Tuesday.
