Philly Lydia Ojallah, alias Aisha, had just arrived in Nairobi two weeks ago when she received the news of her nomination as the Best African DJ in Germany at the African Community in Germany Awards.
She had been nominated for her outstanding achievements in the music industry, which has taken her from the post-election violence in Kenya in 2007/2008 to the top of the DJ scene in Germany.
After completing her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams at Oyugi Ogango High School in Rongo, Migori County, Aisha relocated to Germany with the help of her family and friends.
She was hosted by a family friend but eventually had to move out, leading to a period of stress and depression. However, with the support of a Ugandan friend, she landed a waitress job at a restaurant, where she discovered her love for music.
Through her hard work and determination, Aisha went on to complete her Geriatric Medicine studies and eventually became a certified medical professional.
However, her true passion lay in music, and she began to learn how to deejay. In 2014, she bought her first equipment and landed her first major gig, a White Party in Berlin, which marked the beginning of her successful DJ career.
Since then, Aisha has won several awards, including the DJ Battle in Germany in 2016, the Best Newcomer DJ in Germany in 2017, and the VDJ and DJ awards during the Annual South African DJ Awards in 2019.
Now, she has been nominated for the Best African DJ in Germany at the African Community in Germany Awards, where she will compete against fellow Kenyan DJ, DJ Buuchezo, DJ Ajazz from Ghana, and DJs Selekta Adi and Peace Boy Cham VybzBoss from Gambia.
Aisha is optimistic about her chances of winning the award and is grateful for the recognition of her hard work and efforts.
She has used her influence to campaign against human rights abuse, a cause close to her heart, and plans to extend her tour to Uganda and Tanzania before leaving Germany by the end of the month.
