Deputy President William Ruto has fired a shot at Central Kenya tycoons under the Mount Kenya Foundation, dismissing their influence in the 2022 presidential race.
Speaking on Saturday, October 9, 2021, Ruto bashed the tycoons, saying he does not need their approval to become the president of Kenya.
At a rally in Laikipia, Ruto rubbished the talks held by the tycoons in hotels, saying they do not represent the Mount Kenya people.
“People of Nyahururu, I want to ask you one thing. These people who hold meetings in hotels to endorse leaders, did you send them?” the lawmaker posed.
Ruto went on to state that as long as the Mount Kenya Foundation continues holding these meetings, it is not in their place to decide who becomes the leader.
“Are they the ones to make the decisions or are you the ones who should? Will the president be chosen in big hotels or on the ground?”
During the rally, Ruto donated Ksh2 million, stating that the money he has been dishing out is his own, and he will begin using the government's money when he gets in power.
“I want everyone to understand one thing. The money we have given today is from our own pockets. We will start using the government's money next year,” Ruto noted.
