Published on October 9, 2021, the IMF Executive Board is nearing a decision on whether World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva will keep her job amid allegations of data manipulation.
According to a law firm's investigation, Georgieva, 68, and other top officials pressured staff to change data in the 2018 Doing Business report to benefit China.
Georgieva has repeatedly denied the allegations, releasing a letter from her attorney and 12-page testimony to the IMF board.
However, the law firm found that Georgieva, along with her associate Simeon Djankov and former World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, pressured staff to change the calculation of China's ranking to avoid angering Beijing.
The push came while bank leadership was engaged in sensitive negotiations with Beijing over increasing the bank's lending capital.
The IMF Executive Board is expected to make a decision soon, with the United States, a key member of the IMF, yet to state its position on the controversy.
