On October 8, 2021, the High Court issued a freezing order on properties worth Sh192 million belonging to Jeremiah Kamau Kinyua, a former supervisor at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The order, issued by High Court Judge Esther Maina, prohibits Kinyua from selling, transferring, or disposing of the properties in Nairobi, Kiambu, and Laikipia counties.

The properties, valued at Sh192,020,582, are alleged to be proceeds of corruption, and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating the matter.

According to EACC, investigations found a huge disproportion between Kinyua's assets and his known legitimate source of income, leading to suspicion that he engaged in corruption and economic crimes.

The EACC had received information that Kinyua, a public officer at KRA, accumulated assets between January 2012 and January 2021, which are disproportionate to his known legitimate sources of income.

Justice Maina directed that the freezing orders shall last for six months to enable EACC complete investigations and file a formal suit to recover the proceeds.
