On September 23, 2021, a bizarre incident unfolded at Ola Petrol station along Limuru Road Parklands within Westlands, Nairobi, leaving a police officer with harmful injuries.
According to the Kibera Law Courts, Evans Matundura, a city motorist, caused a traffic gridlock while driving within the petrol station. The security guard requested him to park his car aside to allow other motorists to fuel their vehicles.
However, Matundura's actions took a turn for the worse when he confronted the security guard, claiming to be a police officer. The confrontation attracted members of the public, including three police officers in civilian clothes, including Police Constable John Anyosa Ogweno.
When the officers tried to interrogate Matundura, he provided a 4-digit number instead of his service number and claimed to be officer Rono attached at the Rongai police station. He also failed to identify himself by presenting his certificate of appointment.
As the officers tried to handcuff him, Matundura resisted arrest and bit Constable Ogweno, causing him harm. He was eventually handcuffed and escorted to the Parklands police station.
Matundura denied the charges, and the matter will be mentioned on October 12 for further directions.
