Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, alias 'Baba Yao', is set to contest for the Kiambu governor seat in the 2022 elections, running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
Waititu, a former Jubilee Party member, cited pressure from the electorate as the reason for his decision to vie for the seat.
He will face stiff competition from incumbent James Nyoro, his former deputy, as well as Thika town MP Patrick Wainaina, Senator Kimani Wamatangi, and former governor William Kabogo.
Waititu protested his impeachment in 2019, claiming it was unconstitutional and orchestrated by cartels and his political enemies due to his loyalty to Deputy President William Ruto.
"I fully support Deputy President William Ruto and through his party UDA, I will seek the governor post in Kiambu and I know the people will vote for me again," he said in an interview with The Star.
Waititu has constituted a team to spearhead his campaign strategy ahead of the 2022 elections.
