On October 8, 2021, Celo, an open-source blockchain ecosystem, launched the Make Crypto Mobile Hackathon, a competition aimed at making decentralized financial (DeFi) systems and tools accessible to anyone with a smartphone.

The hackathon, which runs until November 5, 2021, offers $2.5 million in prizes and seed funding. Participants will be challenged to create the next breakthrough DeFi product on the Celo blockchain, helping to shape the future of financial services, e-commerce, environmental innovation, and sustainability.

“From Venice Beach to Venezuela, Celo’s fast-growing ecosystem is more than just democratizing access to digital money. From NFT creation, integration, and marketplaces to environmental innovation and sustainability,” Celo noted in a blog post.

Celo Hackathon Judges

A panel of expert judges, including leading figures in DeFi, will select the top finalists. The judges include Linda Xie (Scalar Capital), Morgan Beller (NFX), Vanessa Grellet (CoinFund), Olaf Carlson-Wee (Polychain Capital), Kartik Talwar (A Capital), and Imran Khan (DeFi Alliance), among others.

Participants will be supported by a collaboration of leading crypto projects and innovators in the ecosystem, including Celo, Polychain, CoinFund, CoinList, Flori Ventures, NFX, Chainlink, and The Graph, as well as regional partners DoraHacks, DevFolio, Blockchain Academy Chile, and Crypto University.
