Published on October 7, 2021, Hyundai has found itself in a tight corner after announcing a recall of over 460,000 sedans due to faulty turn signals.

The affected models include the 2015-2017 Sonata and the 2016-2017 Sonata Hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, with a total of 466,109 units recalled.

The issue arises when a driver signals to turn right, but the car may show the left turn signal flashing in front and at the rear of the sedan, potentially causing confusion and contributing to a crash.

According to Hyundai, the faulty signals are a result of a glitch in the Smart Junction Box software, which may interpret the driver's signal as the opposite side.

Fortunately, no crashes have been notified to Hyundai so far, and the company has already developed a solution in the form of a free software update on the Smart Junction Box.

From November 19, owners of the affected sedans will start being contacted, and their local dealers will have technicians ready to do the software update effectively fixing the glitch.
