October 7, 2021, marked a significant milestone for Victor Shitsama, a Kenyan athlete who has been making waves in the running world. Born and raised in Western Kenya, Shitsama's journey to becoming a professional athlete is a testament to his unwavering dedication and resilience.

After completing his high school education, Shitsama made the bold decision to leave his hometown and move to Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, in search of better training facilities and opportunities. It was here that he met American coach Bobby Lockhart, who would play a pivotal role in shaping his athletic career.

"When I finished my high school, I moved right away to Iten to start my official training. In 2016, Oklahoma State University (OSU) had a coach, Bobby Lockhart, who came to Kenya bringing the under 20 athletes to a championship in Nairobi," Shitsama recalled.

Lockhart's visit to Kenya in 2016 marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership between the two. The American coach was impressed by Shitsama's talent and offered him a chance to join Oklahoma State University (OSU) in the United States. Shitsama seized the opportunity and moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 2018.

During his first indoor season with the University, Shitsama earned all 12 Honours and was named the Big 12 Cross Country Newcomer of the Year. He also set a new personal best record, cementing his position as a rising star in the running world.

Two years later, in 2020, Shitsama helped his team finish third place in the NCAA Cross Country National Championships. His determination and teamwork earned him recognition, and he acknowledged the vital role Lockhart played in his life.

"For this year, my biggest goal is for us to win the NCAA Cross Country National Championship," Shitsama shared, his eyes fixed on the prize.
