Published on October 7, 2021, Electronic Arts (EA) announced that it is exploring the possibility of renaming its FIFA video game series.

The decision comes as the company reviews its naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from its other official partnerships and licenses in the football world.

EA Sports, a division of Electronic Arts, has been publishing an annual version of FIFA since 1993 and has become a leader in football video games due to its licenses to use real player, team, and stadium names.

The latest version, FIFA 22, was launched this month and has already attracted 9.1 million players.

Notably, EA Sports' main competitor, Konami, has also rebranded its football game franchise from Pro Evolution Soccer to eFootball, which was launched in September and offered for free.
