At the Istanbul Park circuit, Lewis Hamilton showcased his love for fashion by wearing a bold blue kilt during his news conference ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix on October 7, 2021.
Hamilton's choice of attire was a departure from the usual corporate uniforms worn by Mercedes' drivers, and it highlighted the role fashion plays in helping him escape the pressures of the sport.
"I love being able to separate from the sport," Hamilton said. "The intensity of this whole season is difficult for everyone that's at the track, and so to be able to have something else – another outlet, something else that you can focus on – helps take the weight off of it."
Hamilton has been open about his love for the fashion scene, often attending high-profile events and wearing bold outfits. In September, he hosted a table for young black designers at the Met Gala in New York, and he has also attended fashion shows in Paris.
"I love the fashion scene," Hamilton explained. "When you're in a fashion week, for example, you're surrounded by people from all different walks of life, expressing themselves in different ways. I love that environment where I'm able to be able to express myself."
Hamilton's comments come as he prepares to face off against Red Bull's Max Verstappen in the title duel, with Hamilton holding a two-point lead.
