Published on October 7, 2021, a viral social media post by Nairobi chips vendor Bevalyne Kwamboka revealed her struggles to make a living.
She had requested an umbrella to shield her from rain and sun while doing her small business, but her appeal reached Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, who offered her little support.
Omanga claimed that she had cracked most of Kwamboka's needs, saying, 'Bevalyne Kwamboka is now sorted. Umbrella, cash, and stock to boost her hustle.'
However, Kwamboka disputed Omanga's claims, saying she was shocked that the politician offered cash and stock as she indicated in her social media handles.
'For clarification, team Millicent Omanga only bought potatoes worth Ksh350, came out of the car with five umbrellas, took photos, returned them, and gave me two aprons. I never received any cash,' Kwamboka said.
Omanga responded, saying she was shocked that Kwamboka could be so thankless despite her best efforts.
But Kwamboka insisted that Omanga did not give her any money to grow her business, saying, 'Thank you Millicent Omanga for the umbrella, aprons, and potatoes. The clarification here was about the cash that was mentioned in your tweet.'
Kenyans have been left wondering who between the two is speaking the truth, with some accusing Omanga of taking advantage of Kwamboka for political mileage.
