Christine Anyango, a 24-year-old from Oyugis, Homa Bay County, has become a rare exception in Kenya's male-dominated construction industry.
She has been working as a construction engineer since 2019, after completing her degree in Technology of Construction at Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology.
Anyango's journey into the construction industry was not an easy one. She faced numerous challenges, including skepticism from her peers and male colleagues who doubted her abilities.
However, she persevered and has now become a respected figure in the industry, known for her skills and dedication.
According to a report by the Business and Human Rights Centre, only 10.6% of engineers in Kenya are women, and only 2,645 out of 17,119 contractors registered with the National Construction Authority in November 2020 were women.
Anyango's story is a testament to the challenges faced by women in the construction industry, but also a reminder of the importance of perseverance and determination.
She has now become a role model for young women in Kenya, inspiring them to pursue careers in the construction industry.
As she continues to work in the industry, Anyango remains committed to her craft and is determined to make a difference.
