On Tuesday morning, a dramatic scene unfolded in the Capitol Hill area of Ruai in Nairobi, where a suspected robber met his untimely demise at the hands of an angry mob.

The incident occurred after the robber, who was part of a three-man gang, had been shot by a police officer.

According to eyewitnesses, the gang had been robbing pedestrians at gunpoint, including two women, Anne Wanjiru and Lilian Mueni, when a police officer, Seargent Samuel Mutuku, intervened.

As reported by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Seargent Mutuku 'swiftly unholstered his firearm, a ceska semi-automatic pistol, loaded with enough rounds of 9mm and ordered the thugs to slowly lift up their hands in surrender, lest he opens fire.'

However, the miscreants defied the order and turned back to attack the officer, prompting him to open fire and seriously injure one of them.

As the injured robber and his accomplices fled on foot, an irate crowd gathered around them and gave them a dog's beating, killing the suspect on the spot.

Police impounded the getaway motorbike and recovered a mobile phone, a long sword, and a machete from the suspect.

DCI praised Seargent Mutuku's heroic actions, saying they reflect the determination and selflessness displayed by many in the uniform.
