Kenya Declares Utamaduni Day a Public Holiday

On Wednesday, 6th October 2021, Interior and Co-ordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i announced that Monday, 11th October would be a public holiday in Kenya.

According to a statement issued by CS Matiang'i, the day, previously marked as Moi Day, would now be referred to as Utamaduni Day, a celebration of the country's rich cultural diversity and heritage.

Dr. Matiang'i noted that this would be the first ever Utamaduni Day celebration in Kenya, and called on citizens to celebrate the country's cultural diversity in a manner that promotes unity and economic progress.

"In line with the provisions of Section 2 and 4 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap 110), it is hereby confirmed that 11th October 2021 will be a public holiday, by dint of Utamaduni Day falling on Sunday 10th October 2021," reads the statement.
