President Uhuru Kenyatta was on October 6, 2021, conferred with the prestigious Order of Freedom of Barbados award, the highest state honor conferred on outstanding Barbadian citizens and foreign nationals.
The award was presented to Kenyatta by Governor of Barbados Dame Sandra Mason at Government House in Bridgetown, Barbados.
As part of his visit to Barbados, Kenyatta handed over the leadership of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to the Barbadian Prime Minister.
During his address, Kenyatta emphasized the need for enhanced multilateral cooperation in addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change, financial crisis, and global security.
He also expressed his concerns over the unequal access to Covid-19 vaccines, stating that true multi-laterism should fully embrace the principles of inclusivity and equality.
“We, therefore, need more multilateral cooperation that includes everyone because none of us is safe until all of us are safe. But as the Covid-19 vaccine distribution experience has demonstrated, simply saying everyone is included is insufficient to guarantee inclusivity,” the President stated.
