On October 5, 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta submitted the names of Alfred Mutweta Mshimba and Monica Wanjiru Muiru to Parliament for approval as new commissioners of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The nominations come after the resignation of two commissioners, Dabar Abdi Maalim and Rose Mghoi Macharia, who left the agency last month. Their six-year term was set to expire in December.

The Public Service Commission had previously interviewed the two nominees and forwarded their names to President Kenyatta.

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi confirmed the nominations, stating that the President seeks approval of the nominees by the House.

The two nominees will undergo vetting by the National Assembly Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs before their potential appointment.

President Kenyatta has urged lawmakers to move with speed and approve the nominations to avoid a leadership vacuum at the EACC.
