A Nairobi businessman has been sentenced to 23 years in jail for attempted murder, a Nairobi court ruled on October 6, 2021.
Tom Oywa Mboya was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder and injuring William Osewe, the proprietor of Ranalo Foods restaurant, in 2016 over a woman.
According to the evidence presented in court, Mboya allegedly shot Osewe several times in December 2016 at a popular eatery in Garden Estate after an argument over Stella Mutheu, who was said to be Osewe's wife.
Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku said the evidence proved beyond reasonable doubt that Mboya was guilty and that he showed no remorse for his offence.
The court also considered the impact of the offence on the victim, Osewe, who was and still is adversely affected by the criminal act.
Mboya was sentenced to 20 years in jail for the attempted murder charge and three years for wounding Osewe, with the sentences to run concurrently, meaning he will serve 20 years.
