On October 5, 2021, Google revealed that Android 12 is ready, but the update will not be available for Pixel devices until later. This is a departure from the usual practice of allowing Pixel users to update directly to the latest version.
According to a 9to5google official, the delay is due to special features for Pixel devices that still require a few finishing touches. It's unclear what functions are being referred to, but it's expected to be completed in a few weeks.
Meanwhile, Apple's iOS 15 update was available for download on all devices immediately after its release. This has led to a perception that Google's update process is slower and more complicated.
Other Android manufacturers, such as Realme and Oppo, have already announced their plans to release new versions of their operating systems, with Realme UI 3.0 set to be released on October 13 and ColorOS 12 on October 11.
