On October 5, 2021, Egerton University Council announced the appointment of Prof Isaac Ongubo Kibwage as the new Vice Chancellor, following consultations with Education CS Prof George Magoha.
The appointment was made in exercise of the provisions of Section 35(1)(a)v) of the Universities Act, 2012, after the Public Service Commission conducted an interview process.
According to the University Council, Prof Kibwage's appointment takes effect immediately, replacing Rose Mwonya who retired in June 2020.
Acting university council chairperson Dr. Wilson Kipruto Ronnoh stated that the move follows consultations with Education CS Prof George Magoha.
Prof Kibwage's appointment was announced in a statement by the University Council, which read: "Following the interview process carried out by the Public Service Commission (PSC), and after consultations with the Cabinet Secretary for Education, in exercise of the provisions of Section 35(1)(a)v) of the Universities Act, 2012, we, the Egerton University Council, have or this 5th day of October 2021 appointed Prof, Isaac Ongubo Kibwage, HSC as the new Vice Chancellor of Egerton University."
