On Tuesday, October 5, 2021, a police officer's swift action saved two women from being attacked by three armed thugs in Ruai, Nairobi.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the three thugs, who were working together, accosted the women at Capitol Hill Estate.

The women, identified as Anne Wanjiru and Lilian Mueni, were with Sergeant Samuel Mutuku, a police officer from the Administrative Police Service (APS), who was also headed to work at the time.

Witnessing the incident, Mutuku drew his firearm, a Ceska semi-automatic pistol, and ordered the thugs to surrender.

However, in retaliation, the thugs attacked Mutuku, and he opened fire, seriously injuring one of them.

Two of the thugs attempted to escape on a motorbike but were forced to flee on foot due to the bike's defect.

Members of the public who witnessed the robbery attacked the wounded thug and recovered a stolen mobile phone from him.

The motorcycle was impounded by the police, and a long sword and a machete were also recovered.
