Published on October 5, 2021, Lord Mayor William Russel of the City of London has commended Kenya's significant progress in various sectors, including education, technology, infrastructure, manufacturing, and tourism.

During his visit to the Kenya Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai, Russel acknowledged the long-standing historical ties between the UK and Kenya, which have strengthened social, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries.

According to a statement, Russel commended Kenya's strides in wildlife conservation and unique tourism offerings that visitors to Kenya can enjoy.

As an international ambassador for the UK's financial and professional services sector, Russel also heads the City of London Corporation, the governing body of the Square Mile dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City.

The Lord Mayor's visit comes after Kenya and the UK signed an Economic Partnership Agreement, ensuring duty-free access to the UK market for companies operating in Kenya.

This agreement will support jobs and economic development in Kenya, while also allowing UK businesses to continue importing Kenyan products duty-free, such as fresh vegetables and flowers.

Kenya is one of the largest economies in East Africa and an important trading partner for the UK, with the UK market accounting for 43% of total exports of vegetables from Kenya and at least 9% of cut flowers.
