On Thursday, July 4, 2019, State House digital communications director Dennis Itumbi appeared in court, making explosive claims about a meeting at La Mada hotel.
According to Itumbi's sworn affidavit, he has audio and video recording material that suggests a meeting could have taken place at the hotel, where the possibility of assassinating Deputy President William Ruto was discussed.
Itumbi refused to disclose his sources, citing journalist ethics, but stated that he has proof of the meeting.
He also claimed that upon his arrest, he was pressured to admit to authoring and posting an alleged letter, which he refused to do.
Itumbi opposed the application to detain him for five days at the Kamkunji police station, citing concerns for his personal safety and well-being.
Magistrate Zainab Abdul ordered him to be detained at Muthaiga police station instead.
