As of October 4, 2021, the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has taken steps to address the persistent traffic jam on Mombasa Road.

According to a statement, KeNHA has opened up lanes at Syokimau and Mlolongo area, previously closed for the Nairobi Expressway construction works.

The authority has also improved two-directional U-turns at various points, including Allpack around Mlolongo area, and widened diversion points at Gateway Mall area to ease vehicle movement.

However, KeNHA warned that the section along Imara Daima to General Motors would still experience traffic due to the installation of a new footbridge.

Additionally, the area around Bunyala - Haille Selassie roundabout - University Way would face traffic congestion as box girders are being hoisted.

KeNHA reported that the Nairobi Expressway stands at 64.8 per cent completion rate, with the operation and monitoring center at 98 per cent completion.

The monitoring center will play a crucial role in managing the road once it's fully operational, with the expressway slated for completion by March 2022.

KeNHA communications representative, Sam Kumba, urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules to minimize congestion.
