On October 4, 2021, a team of bomb squad officers from the Bomb Disposal Unit successfully detonated a live bomb and collected six dummy bombs in Naibor Keju, Samburu Central Sub County.
The discovery was made after a local herder reported finding seven metal objects suspected to be explosives while grazing his cattle in the area.
According to Samburu Central Deputy Police Commander Abdikadir Malicha, the herder had come across the objects in a bush near the Kisima area and immediately reported the incident to the authorities.
Malicha explained that out of the seven objects, one was a live bomb and six were dummy bombs, which are typically used during military exercises.
He urged residents to report any suspicious objects to the police, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in preventing accidents.
Lesira Leamo, a local resident whose child was seriously injured in an explosive accident 12 years ago, has called on the government to take action to remove undetonated bombs from the area.
Leamo's 16-year-old son, Tobiko, was injured in a bomb blast on August 15, 2012, and despite efforts to pursue compensation, the family has yet to find justice.
