On September 27th and 28th, 2021, the Mombasa Tea Auction took place, offering 8.3 million kilograms of tea for sale. This was a decrease from the 8.8 million kilograms offered during the same period last year, but an increase from the 8.1 million kilograms sold during the previous auction.
Of the tea offered, 6.7 million kilograms were sold, a decrease from the 7.9 million kilograms sold during the same period last year and the 7 million kilograms sold during the previous auction.
Despite the decrease in tea sales, the auction saw a significant increase in prices, with a kilogram selling at an average price of $2.16. This is up from the $1.90 average price during the same period last year and the $2.13 average price during the previous auction.
