On Sunday, October 3, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi responded to a distress call and caught three thugs red-handed robbing a commuter in the Harmony area of Dandora, Nairobi County.

According to a statement by the DCI, one of the thugs was gunned down, while the two others escaped with gunshot wounds and fled into a nearby sewer channel.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, and the thugs were accused of attacking innocent residents with reckless abandon.

Police officers from Dandora responded to the distress call made to the DCI hotline and found the thugs attacking a woman who was on her way home.

When the officers approached, the thugs opened fire, leading to a shootout that left one of them dead.

"His cowardly accomplices, who will live to tell the story of how their master lost his life after challenging law enforcement agents to a duel, dived into a sewer channel and swam through the sludge towards Njiru," the police statement read.

"Detectives are hot on their trail. Meanwhile, the woman who had been attacked by the thugs was escorted home by the officers," the statement added.

The woman was lucky to escape without any injuries.

Crime in Nairobi County has been on the rise in recent months due to high unemployment caused by a deteriorating economy.
