On a rainy day in Kisii County, Deputy President William Ruto proved that nothing could dampen his spirits or his message. The second in command was in high gear as he traversed the region, spreading his 'hustler' and bottom-up economic model to the locals.
Dr. Ruto's visit was reminiscent of President Uhuru Kenyatta's 2017 campaign in Nyahururu, Nyandarua county, where he also braved the rains. However, unlike his boss, Dr. Ruto did not carry an umbrella.
Despite the downpour, hundreds of residents turned out in large numbers to welcome the Deputy President to their towns. His speech was a clarion call to the next government, which he hopes to form, to prioritize the common man.
He emphasized that the key to growing the economy lies in creating a conducive environment for small and medium businesses to thrive. 'The Hustler Nation's priority is the creation of jobs and expansion of business opportunities through the establishment of a friendly investment environment,' he said.
Dr. Ruto also opened the office block of the Bomachoge Chache Constituency Development funds, a move that was met with cheers from the locals. They also gifted him bananas, one of the food crops in the area.
Earlier in Kisii town, a group of young people attempted to heckle the Deputy President, chanting pro-ODM party slogans and affirming their support for ODM leader Raila Odinga. However, the police intervened, and the situation was calmed, allowing Dr. Ruto to meet his supporters.
Dr. Ruto's visit to Kisii County was a significant one, with the Deputy President visiting several areas, including Tendere, Ogembo, Ikoba, Tabaka, Nyachenge, and Kenyenya.
