On a fateful Saturday morning, October 2, 2021, a couple took a devastating leap of faith from the fifth floor of a luxury apartment building in Mtwapa's upscale area, Kilifi county.
A security guard at the flats discovered their bodies after hearing a loud bang in the backyard and a car alarm that went off, prompting him to investigate.
When he arrived at the scene, the guard found the body of a man lying on the ground, and just moments later, a female body landed next to him.
"The guard immediately took flight engulfed in fear, towards the Mtwapa police station. On arrival, the bewildered guard told detectives that there were 'falling ghosts' at his place of work," the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated.
Investigations revealed that the couple had been fighting in their house, with broken items and blood found in the apartment.
"After accessing the house whose door had been latched from inside, detectives established that the two had been fighting prior to committing suicide," the DCI reported.
